MARY
LYNN DOBSON
(Playwright) Mary Lynn hails from Middletown, New
Jersey, where she has lived on and off most of her life. In 1999 she was
honored, along with renown playwright Romulus Linney, as a winner of the
1999 Y.E.S. New Play Festival at the University of Northern Kentucky.
Two on the Aisle, Three in a Van, under the direction of Michael King,
played to sold out audiences at the Corbett Theatre. It was the most
highly attended play in the festival's history. Since then, Two on the
Aisle, has had a staged reading at Fat Chance Theatre Company and
launched the "2000 New Works, New Voices" series at the
Henlopen Theatre Project. Both readings were under the direction of
James FitzSimmons. Mary Lynn
has also written, The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood, which has been
published by Dramatic Publishing and is currently being performed throughout the
country and Canada. She has become one of Dramatic Publishing's fastest
selling new playwrights and has consistently topped the bestsellers list
at the Drama Book Shop in Manhattan. The Somewhat True Tale of Robin
Hood,
was produced as part of the 1999 Jackie White Memorial National
Children's Theatre Award Festival, as well as the McLaren Comedy
Festival where it was named "best family theatre show". These
are accomplishments Mary Lynn is particularly proud of due to the fact
she has no children and basically possesses the maternal instincts of a
doorknob. Mary Lynn has appeared in various roles on stage and film as
well, including the starring role of, the Wife, in the film The
Runner,
written and directed by Academy Award winning director, Ang Lee.
As a director herself, she most recently directed productions of A Funny
Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Sylvia and next spring will be
directing the musical comedy, She Loves Me, at Playhouse 22 in East
Brunswick, NJ. In her spare time, Mary Lynn enjoys whining, collecting
fuzz from the lint trap of her dryer and catapulting her husband into financial ruin. Easily amused, she can have a party with a paper bag and
is fascinated by small shiny objects.
